Logan Teleflex Wins Moscow Baggage Contract

Russia’s second largest airport, Sheremetyevo International in Moscow, has awarded a contract worth over £2.25 million to Logan Teleflex, a UK-based manufacturer and integrator of automated baggage handling systems. It covers a baggage handling system compliant with international security standards for the busy airport, which handled over 14 million passengers in 2007. The system will be installed in the new Terminal 1 for international flights.
Phase 1 of the project was completed in January this year and involved installing 29 check-in desks and one out-sized baggage check-in desk. The high-throughput of the system ensures a minimum capability of 2,400 bags per hour.
The second phase was due for completion in August and has been planned carefully to minimise disruption to the terminal’s operation. It includes a computerised mezzanine-level departures sorting system, ‘early bag storage’ lanes, and an additional make-up carousel, which will increase the flight make-up capacity and enable flights to be checked in earlier.
