A new airport is to be built to serve the islands of St Vincent and the Grenadines in the Caribbean. Argyle International is due to replace the ET Joshua Airport by the end of 2011 at a cost of $217 million. It will be the largest and most expensive project in the islands’ history and will occupy 375 acres (152ha) of land on the eastern coast of St Vincent. It will enable the 32-island nation to welcome direct flights from the USA and Canada and other international gateways, and will feature a 9,000ft (2,743m) runway and a 53,820sq ft (5,000m2) terminal. ET Joshua Airport is currently limited to local island flights by regional types.
