Bulgarian Improvements

Fraport Twin Star Airport Management have revealed plans for new terminals at the Bulgarian Black Sea airports of Varna and Bourgas. The cost of the projects is €65 million and work is expected to get underway in mid-2009 and be completed in time for the 2011 summer season. The new facility at Bourgas will have 36 check-in desks while the one at Varna will have 24. At the same time as these improvements three new fire trucks will be procured. Across the two airports some 110 old buildings are to be demolished.
During the first half of 2008 Fraport invested heavily at Varna, renovating the terminal, replacing the electrical system and improving car parking. Fraport has an agreement to run the airports for the next 35 years as part of a consortium with Bulgarian company BM Star.
