Qantas A380 Enters Service

Amid much pomp and ceremony, as befits such a momentous event, the first of 20 Airbus A380s was delivered to Australian national carrier Qantas on September 21. After a period of training for both flight and cabin crews, the aircraft entered service on the carrier’s route from Melbourne to Los Angeles (LAX) on October 20 and this is due to be followed by a service from Sydney (also to LAX) tomorrow, October 24.
The carrier’s CEO Designate, Alan Joyce, said the selection of the A380 upheld its tradition as a leader in long-haul travel. “Taking delivery of the first of our A380s is an important occasion for us. It is both a culmination – following years of meticulous design development – and a beginning, with the A380 leading us into a new chapter in our history,” he added.
