St Helena Airport On Hold

Plans to boost the tourism industry on the island of St Helena have been put on hold by a decision to delay building an airport. The British dependency in the Atlantic Ocean, off the west coast of Africa, has been affected by a decision by the UK government. The Department for International Development (Dfid) and the Treasury were “in continuing discussions about issues of concern regarding access to St Helena,” according to the UK’s Secretary of State for International Development, Douglas Alexander. “As a result, there will be a pause in negotiations over awarding the St Helena airport contract.”
