Five Bidders in Gatwick Race?

The deadline for formal bids to acquire control of Gatwick Airport passed in late January, sources suggesting that at least five consortia had submitted bids for London’s second largest airport. The facility was offered for sale by operator BAA last year following a provisional report into its airport ownership by the UK Competition Commission. No formal announcement has yet been made by BAA, although sources in the financial markets have revealed that companies with existing interests in Birmingham Airport, London City Airport, Manchester Airports Group and Vancouver International Airport are all thought to be in the running.
