The short-haul low-cost subsidiary of Korean Air, Jin Air has announced it will be launching its inaugural international services in October 2009. Jin Air’s CEO, Jae Kun Kim said its first overseas routes will be to cities in China and Thailand. Prior to its international debut, Jin Air will expand its fleet as destinations are added to its domestic network from April 2009. It currently flies three Boeing 737-800s and was planning to acquire an additional example in the second quarter of 2009, with a fifth arriving later this year. On April 3, 2009, Jin Air started a new domestic route, operating eight flights per day between Busan and Jeju; this is added to the 24 rotations per day it flies between Seoul (Gimpo) and Jeju.
