Airport Growth in Dubai

More than $17billion has been earmarked for the further expansion of airport facilities at both Dubai International and Dubai World Central/Al Maktoum International.  Operating company Dubai Airports is planning to spend a further $10billion on expansion to keep up with growing international passenger volumes, its Chairman Sheikh Ahmed Bin Saeed Al Maktoum announced at the recent Paris Air Show.  Dubai International Airport recorded a passenger traffic growth of 7.1% in May and was forecasting a 4-5% increase for the first half of the year.
“These are challenging times for aviation,” Sheikh Ahmed said.  “Passenger and cargo traffic has dropped off dramatically in most parts of the world leading to billions in industry losses.  Our May increase follows a 6.5% rise in April and is a sign the worst of the crisis is behind us.  It also sends a clear signal that our long-term strategy is on track,” he added.
