New Lounge Facilities at Jersey

May 23 was the opening date for a redeveloped international departures lounge and arrivals concourse at Jersey Airport in the UK’s Channel Islands.
The refurbishment of the existing facilities, which took just eleven weeks to complete, came because of an expected increase in air traffic to and from mainland Europe, which requires passengers to clear immigration upon arrival before collecting luggage.  Although primarily used for these international flights, the facility is multi-functional and can also handle domestic UK traffic when required.  Furthermore, it can also be adapted to cater for future transit passengers.  The departures lounge area can comfortably seat up to 130 travellers.
The refurbishment of the international area is just one of a number of improvements currently taking place at Jersey Airport.  As well as construction work on the new Air Traffic Control Tower and Building, which is due for completion in October 2009, a major refurbishment of the airside departures lounge is also underway.  This will offer up a larger range of retail outlets as well as improvements to the catering outlet and bar area.
The first stage of these developments has already taken place with the reopening of WHSmith.
Overall, work is scheduled for completion by the end of July 2009.
