Republic Wins Frontier Auction

Republic Airways Holdings has won a bankruptcy court auction in the USA to buy Frontier Airlines Holdings. It bid $108.8 million, and a pledge not to seek repayment of a $150 million unsecured claim, to beat its main rival, Southwest Airlines.
“I look forward to welcoming Frontier to our Republic family,” said Bryan Bedford, Republic’s CEO. Indianapolis-based Republic was the eleventh-largest US carrier last year based on passenger traffic, while Denver-based Frontier was 13th and Dallas-based Southwest was fifth.
Southwest said in a statement that its bid at the auction “was deemed unacceptable” because its pilots and those at Denver-based Frontier had failed to agree on how they would work together – particularly over pilot seniority – a condition of any bid to buy Frontier
