Abu Dhabi has been selected to host The 18th World Routes, to be held in September 2012. The decision was formerly announced in China at this year’s event, which was hosted by Capital Airports Holding Company in Beijing. Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority (ADTA) and its partners in securing the bid, the Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority and Etihad are expected to make a formal announcement at a press conference in Abu Dhabi in the coming weeks.
HE Khalifa Al Mazrouei, ADAC Chairman, said: “World Routes is a key event for ADAC and an important part of our overall strategy to deliver Abu Dhabi suitable airline connectivity. Abu Dhabi is the perfect location to host such an important industry event as World Routes 2012. The Emirate of Abu Dhabi already has strong aviation and tourism sectors that are benefiting from further investment and are significant contributors to the local economy.
“World Routes Abu Dhabi will provide the ideal opportunity to showcase to the industry the extraordinary economic transformation underway in Abu Dhabi as well as the progress on the iconic Midfield Terminal Complex at Abu Dhabi International Airport which will increase airport capacity to 40 million passengers per year.”
Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority (ADTA) and its partners worked together to secure the forum, highlighting the area’s significant potential for tourism activity following the opening of the new Terminal 3 Abu Dhabi International Airport by Abu Dhabi Airports Company (ADAC) in the first quarter of 2009. The new building is located next to Terminal 1 and has increased the airport’s overall annual passenger capacity to 12 million passengers. One of Abu Dhabi’s key strategic advantages is its proximity to the world’s fastest growing regions – namely, Asia, Europe and Africa.
