Slot Transfers For Delta and US Airways

Delta Air Lines and US Airways say they have agreed on a slot transfer deal for flights at New York’s LaGuardia (LGA) and Ronald Reagan Washington National (DCA).  At Washington, 42 slots will be transferred from Delta to US Air: in return US Air will exchange 125 slots at LaGuardia (currently used by US Airways Express) to Delta.
If the agreement receives the go-ahead from the regulatory authorities, US Air will acquire the route rights to Tokyo and São Paulo from DCA, while Delta will be able to create ‘a domestic hub’ at LGA.  Delta expects to at least double the number of non-stop destinations it serves from LGA and will use “larger jets” in place of the turboprops currently operated by US Airways Express.
