Pier A-Plus At Frankfurt

Work has commenced on the 2,592ft (790m) long A-Plus Pier at Frankfurt, Germany.  The foundation stone for the new pier A-Plus was laid on September 1 by the State Premier of Hesse, Roland Koch, the Chairman of the Executive Board Fraport AG, Dr. Stefan Schulte and Lufthansa Chairman and CEO Wolfgang Mayrhuber.  The pier is scheduled for completion in 2012 at a cost of close to half a billion euros.  Covering an area of more than 1,991,390sq ft (185,000m2), it will furnish additional capacity for around six million passengers per year and will be used exclusively by resident carrier Lufthansa.  The pier will provide parking positions at the terminal for seven wide-body aircraft, four of which are specially designed to handle the Airbus A380.  Alternatively, eleven short-haul aircraft can be handled in parallel in the same area.
