Rio Galeao To Go Private

After winning the race to host the 2016 Olympics Games, Brazil announced on October 6 that it plans to privatise Rio de Janeiro’s Galeao International Airport to allow extensive modernisation.  Apparently the state of the airport raised concerns among members of the International Olympic Committee and there has been speculation that the suggested sale and consequent improvements were part of the deal.  However, the privatisation of the airport has been muted for some time, not least by Sergio Cabral, governor of the state of Rio de Janeiro, who said that the facility desperately needs massive investment and better management.
