Improvements at Wonderboom

Upgraded infrastructure at Wonderboom Airport in Pretoria, South Africa, will allow it to handle daily flights to Cape Town and Durban.  In 2008, the city budgeted R160 million to upgrade the airport’s new departure and arrival halls, taxiways and aprons.
Transport Minister Sbu Ndebele said the airport will also play a key role in the 2010 Soccer World Cup.  “Wonderboom is expected to operate scheduled flights from host city to host city to cater for travelling fans,” he said.  “It is also expected to accommodate media flights, facilitate FIFA movement from Tshwane and Rustenburg, and serve as a re-fuelling centre for aircraft.”
