Melbourne Airport in Australia has opened a new wing connected to the main terminal.
December 2: Melbourne Airport in Australia opened a new wing connected to the main terminal, the first phase of an A$330 million ($300 million) expansion plan that is intended to ensure the airport can cater for growth over the next 20 years.
The new wing will eventually add five gates to the terminal’s existing eleven; three gates are ready, the remaining two will be added within the next five years. Two of the new gates have dual aerobridges that can handle the Airbus A380 or two smaller aircraft.
Melbourne airport is also implementing a significant apron and taxiway expansion programme to prevent congestion from the increase in airliner movements.
