Mexicana Joins oneworld

Mexican scheduled carrier Mexicana and its subsidiaries MexicanaClick and MexicanaLink officially became oneworld’s eleventh member at midnight on November 9.  Iberia Chairman and CEO Antonio Vazquez, whose airline sponsored Mexicana’s entry, said the alliance’s newest member “will considerably strengthen oneworld’s long-established position as the leading airline alliance in the Spanish-speaking world and in Latin America”.  The grouping now flies to nearly 750 airports in close to 150 countries, and its airlines operate some 2,500 aircraft on 8,500 daily flights.  Russia’s S7 Airlines is slated to become the twelfth member in 2010.
