December 15: British Airways is to seek a legal injunction against strike action by cabin crew over the Christmas period as there were “irregularities” in the ballot, which the airline believes renders it “invalid”.
The airline says that it thinks its proposed package for cabin crew is “very fair and reasonable” and that it provides most crew with pay rises this year and next.
Willie Walsh, British Airways Chief Executive, said “A strike is senseless – and we urge Unite to draw back. We will not be reversing our changes to onboard crew numbers. It must understand that there can be no return to the old, inefficient ways if we want to ensure long-term survival in the interests of our customers, shareholders and all our staff.”
