December 17: The Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) has awarded the A380 a ‘validation type certificate’, further opening the Chinese market to Airbus Industries.
The A380 received its European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) and Federal Security Service (FAA) certification on December 12, 2006. To prepare for Airbus A380 aircraft operations in China, the CAAC established a working group, headed by Li Jian, which included members from the CAAC’s Flight Standard Department, Airworthiness Division, Airport Department and the Air Traffic Control Division.
China Southern Airlines will be the first operator of the A380 in the region, having ordered five aircraft expected to be delivered in 2011.
