December 29: UK airports are warning passengers travelling to the USA to expect increased security measures in the wake of the Christmas Day attempted bombing of a Delta Airlines aircraft travelling from Amsterdam to Detroit.
Gatwick operator GAL says passengers are advised to check with their airline for specific travel advice and to limit their hand baggage to one item to help minimise waiting times. Airport operator BAA is also recommending passengers limit the amount of baggage being taken on board the aircraft.
Delta Airlines is asking passengers to arrive at non-US airports at least three hours in advance of travelling due to the new international security measures.
