January 8: Airbus has confirmed that it delivered an A318 to the Saudi Red Crescent Authority (SRCA) in December.
The A318 will serve in the medical evacuation (MedEvac) role, transporting injured people to hospitals within Saudi Arabia and elsewhere in the Middle East and will also serve as an airborne command centre when necessary. Perfect Aviation of Portugal will initially operate the aircraft for the SRCA.
“Our Airbus A318 will be able to carry more passengers than traditional corporate jets and the larger space that its cabin provides will also make it easier for doctors and nurses to attend to patients,” said SRCA Chief Executive Officer Dr Mowaffag Albayouk. “The under-floor cargo capacity will allow us to carry relief equipment and first-aid supplies to disaster areas.”
