January 28: A new owner for closed Coventry Airport could be in place within a few weeks, reveals the Coventry Telegraph.
Airport Development Partners (ADP), a Swiss-based airport investment and development company hopes to secure a deal to buy the airport and reinstate passenger services to European destinations, especially Alpine ski resorts. The company has a three-stage, five-year plan to develop the airport including freight operations and an aircraft repair facility.
ADP Chief Executive Thomas Frankl says that there is room for three major airports in the Midlands, with Coventry competing for business with Birmingham and Nottingham East Midlands. “The Midlands is the second biggest economic powerhouse in Great Britain, so there is room for that demand,” he said.
