EasyJet offers to fly Pope

February 3: In the wake of press speculation that the Pope’s forthcoming trip to the UK will be funded by the taxpayer to the tune of some £20 million, easyJet says it will fly the Bishop of Rome by return for free.
Such is the public concern on cost that an on-line petition has been raised by the National Secular Society asking that the Catholic Church pays for the proposed visit.
EasyJet says it “can offer his holiness a choice of routes from Rome to airports across the UK and a whole new experience of low-fares travel”. The airline has yet to find out if the Vatican will take up the offer…
