February 7: Airports across the US eastern states were closed as up to 18 inches of snow fell, causing President Obama to call the snowstorm ‘Snowmageddon’.
Airport snow crews worked around the clock to try and keep airports open, but in Washington DC Reagan National Airport remained closed while Dulles International Airport had limited services.
At Dulles, a hangar roof collapsed, causing damage to four private jets but fortunately without injury to five people in the building at the time.
