February 9: Spanish carrier Iberia has taken delivery of its latest aircraft, an Airbus A319. It is the first aircraft taken on by the airline in over a year.
Christened the Visón Europeo (European Mink), aircraft EC-LEI wears a picture of the European Mink on its fuselage – this will remain for as long as the animal remains on the ‘endangered species’ list in Europe. In January 2007 Iberia adopted this naming policy as a way of bringing attention to Spain’s rich biodiversity and to highlight endangered wildlife species.
The new aircraft will operate on domestic, European and African routes.
