Mixed Fortunes At Moscow's Main Airports

DOMODEDOVO AIRPORT remains the main hub for traffic in the Russian capital, Moscow, despite reporting a notable decline in passenger numbers during the past year.  For the full 2009 calendar year, Domodedovo handled 18.6 million passengers, an 8.6% fall over the previous 12 months.  At Sheremetyevo, considerable investment in improving facilities appears to have paid off with only a 2.0% decrease – the airport ending the year having carried 14.7 million passengers.  It was a similar story at Vnukovo Airport, which is also undergoing a major renovation, with traffic slipping by 2.4% to 7.7 million passengers.
