Italian manufacturer Elsag Datamat, part of the Finmeccanica Group, has produced a new cross-belt baggage sorter.  Making its public show debut at the Passenger Terminal Expo show in Brussels, the new product is designed to route baggage arriving from check-in desks through the various control stages such as x-ray scanners.  It can also be used to sort checked bags to their assigned chutes for departing flights.
The product is based on a continuous loop system using synchronised linear motors to move the bags along.
