158 killed in Indian crash

May 24: A Boeing 737-800 belonging to Air India Express was destroyed when it crashed while landing at Mangalore-Bajpe Airport in India with all but eight passengers killed, reports Aviation Safety Network.
Air India Express flight IX812 left Dubai on an international flight to the hilltop airport of Mangalore with 160 passengers and 6 crew members on board. A preliminary report suggests the aircraft overran the runway and slid down a wooded valley, bursting into flames.
The aircraft involved, VT-AXV, was just over two years old, according to the report. Air India put in place its full Emergency Response Team at Mangalore called the ‘Angels of Air India’ with a local coordination centre set up at the airport.
