Northwest Florida Beaches Opens

A NEW-BUILD US airport opened its doors on May 24 when Southwest Airlines and Delta Air Lines commenced services to Northwest Florida Beaches International.  It is replacing the old Panama City-Bay County Airport which will close on July 1.
The facility has been the brainchild of Airport Director Randy Curtiss and with the help of developers St Joe Co, the Florida Panhandle’s largest private landowner, he has fulfilled his ambition of bringing more job prospects and more visitors to the region.
Southwest Airlines was attracted by an unusual agreement which will see the airport meet the carrier’s fuel bill if it does not achieve its passenger targets within the first two years.
St Joe CEO Britton Green commented: “We are looking to connect this region nationally and internationally to allow for growth and new jobs.  To me, this is the opening of whole new chapter for a region that for a long time has been focused on one aspect of tourism and a little bit of the military.”
