Qatar receives 20th Boeing 777

August 2: Qatar Airways reached a milestone with the 20th Boeing 777 delivered to Doha on July 29.
The brand new B777-200 Long Range aircraft is the seventh in the airline’s fleet, which now stands at 20 777s including eleven Extended Range (300-ERs), seven Long Range (200-LRs) and two freighter versions.
An eighth LR is due for delivery in August and Chief Executive Officer Akbar Al Baker announced the order of two additional LR Boeing 777s at Farnborough, which will be used to target new ultra long-haul markets. “In the next three years, the airline will open at least 20 new destinations. With new aircraft deliveries averaging more than one a month, including the 787 Dreamliner next year, Qatar Airways is well on track to achieving its goal of 120 destinations by 2013,” he said.
Qatar Airways’ 777 LRs currently operate non-stop between Doha and Houston in Texas, Melbourne in Australia and Sao Paulo in Brazil, the latter continuing onto Buenos Aires in Argentina.
