Dresden Marks 75 Years

Dresden Airport which opened on July 11, 1935 is to celebrate its long history in September.
The 75th anniversary of the airport’s existence will be celebrated as part of the 5th Major Airport Festival in the company of musical star guests like Ute Freudenberg, Frank Schöbel and Hans-Jürgen Beyer. Interested visitors can look forward to a colourful mixture of aircraft – ranging from historical aircraft to a NATO “AWACS” reconnaissance plane and even the last remaining rump of the “152” jet aircraft. They will be able to take part in round trips and even took off on a sightseeing flight. Guests will not only be able to visit information stands belonging to associations and partners of the airport, but also inspect an exhibition of the history of aviation in Dresden. The multi-facetted show programme for the general public will include an impressive high wire performance by the Geschwister Weisheit troupe.
The celebrations will reach another climax when the terminal is turned into a party and shopping mile on the evening of 18 September. The 3rd Grand Airport Night there will include the legendary group Boney M. with original voice Liz Mitchell; the group will be singing world-famous hits from the 1970s. Other highlights of this special evening will be the party band, “Komet”, DJ SLutz, Wolf’s discotheque, the Dixie musicians from “Blamu Jatz! Orchestrion” and the “Samah Khan” exotic show group.
