SAS to phase out all MD-90 aircraft

Scandinavian airline group SAS is to phase out all of its MD-90 aircraft by leasing them to “an undisclosed US airline”. The company has entered into five-year leases covering its eight MD-90-30 aircraft with the phase-out schedule starting in September and ending in mid-2011.
SAS says that the MD-90 has been a ‘niche aircraft’ in the fleet and it wants to simplify and standardise by reducing the number of aircraft types.
