Milan Facelift

THE NORTHERN Italian airport of Milan/Malpensa is planning a major upgrade of its Terminal 1. The interior will be modernised in the style of the airport’s new Pier C, which is due to open in 2012. The €50 million project is due to commence in 2011 and work should be finished in 2014.
Meanwhile a budget hotel with at least 150 rooms will be built adjacent to Terminal 2, which is used by low-cost carriers (LCCs) including Luton-based easyJet. The facility is expected to open in early 2012. Another hotel, a Sheraton, is scheduled to open near T1 this autumn.   Marco Finelli
