Aero República is now Copa Airlines Colombia

October 7: Bogotá-based airline Aero República is changing its brand name to Copa Airlines Colombia. The airline says that the new brand will “reinforce the ongoing international expansion of operations, now including seven directly-operated international destinations and connections to 45 cities through the Americas Hub in Panama.”
Aero República was acquired by Copa Airlines in March 2005 and has become the market leader in Colombia, claims a press release. “We are proud to have achieved our goal of transforming the airline and begin to, starting today, take off as Copa Airlines Colombia”, stated Roberto Junguito Pombo, President of the rebranded airline. “Our change in brand name is possible thanks to the fact that Aero República has reached a level of maturity, efficiency, and modernity that enables it to compete at the level of Copa Airlines and all the other leading airlines in the world,” said Pedro Heilbron, Chief Executive Officer of Copa Holdings, the parent company.
Aero República’s fleet of 12 aircraft will now be incorporated in to the Copa fleet of 60 consisting of Boeing 737NG and Embraer 190 types.
