Aeromexico goes green

October 15: Mexican carrier Aeromexico said it has operated its first “green flight”, using a Boeing 737-700 between Mexico City and San Jose in Costa Rica.
The airline claims to have saved 480kg of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions on the round trip by “the training of the pilots, flight attendants and ground personnel along with close coordination with vendors and entities in the air traffic control.”
It also claims to have saved 75kg of CO2 emissions through various ‘green’ initiatives on board the aircraft including eliminating some plastic and aluminium containers, utilising new lightweight carts, separating organic and inorganic waste, reducing the amount of onboard printed materials and using biodegradable bags and hand soaps.
