Gulf Air gets cash injection

October 20: Reuters news agency reports that Bahrain’s loss-making national carrier Gulf Air is to get a cash injection of 400 million Bahraini dinars (€760 million) from the government.
According to the report, the airline made a loss of $502 million (€361 million) in 2009 but plans to break even within two years by focussing on regional routes in the Middle East, competing with Qatar Airways and Emirates Airline. A spokeswoman for Gulf Air said it was the first time the airline’s capital had been increased since Bahrain took full ownership in 2007.
