Jet2 To Open Glasgow Base

UK LOW-FARE airline Jet2 has revealed that it will open a base at Glasgow Airport, its eighth in the UK.  The carrier will have one Boeing 737-300 and one B757-200 at the facility from the end of March 2011 to launch flights to Alicante, Dalaman, Faro, Monastir, Palma, Paphos, Sharm-el-Sheikh and Tenerife.  “There is a considerable gap in the market at Glasgow Airport which we intend to fill,” said Ian Doubtfire, Jet2’s Managing Director.
As well as a better choice of destinations for people in Glasgow and the West of Scotland, the base will create 150 jobs with the airline and in supporting industries.  Like its existing facilities at Belfast International, Blackpool, East Midlands, Edinburgh, Leeds Bradford, Manchester and Newcastle, Jet2 will offer seat-only deals and holiday packages in partnership with sister company, tour operator Jet2holidays.
Elsewhere in Scotland, Jet2 will expand its network at Edinburgh with a three times weekly service to Budapest from April 21, and from Manchester it will introduce flights to Brive, Larnaca and Paphos and increase frequencies to Funchal, Malaga, Monastir, Murcia, Nice, Palma, Pisa and Venice for summer 2011.
