Wataniya slims down

December 2: Kuwaiti carrier Wataniya Airways is to reduce its operations due to “subsidised carriers” in the local market, reports Bloomberg.
Wataniya only began operations in January 2009, offering a premium service of business and first class and ‘premium economy’ aboard its fleet of seven Airbus A320s configured for just 122 seats each. The reports says the airline will stop flying to Damascus, Amman, Manama, and the Saudi city of Jeddah from December 5, withdraw three of its aircraft from service and look to reduce its staff. It took delivery of its seventh aircraft as recently as September 23.
