ASIANA AIRLINES has become the latest customer for the Airbus A380 following signature of a firm order for six in a deal valued at $1.8 billion at list prices. Asiana, South Korea’s second largest carrier, will take delivery of its first A380 in April 2014, a second example will also be delivered later that year, two more in 2015 and the remaining pair in 2017.
Asiana plans to operate the jets with a premium layout on key routes to Europe and the US. A decision as to which engine supplier it will select is expected to be made in the near future.
Commenting after the deal was announced, Yoon Young-Doo, President and CEO, Asiana Airlines said; “With the A380 Asiana will be able to take its award-winning service to a new level, offering the very highest standards of comfort in the sky. At the same time, the significantly reduced operating costs and fuel efficiencies afforded by the aircraft will enable us to enhance our productivity and reduce our carbon footprint.”
Total firm orders for the A380 now stand at 240 from 18 customers worldwide. (Airbus)
