2010 CAA Statistics

ACCORDING TO figures releases by the Civil Aviation Authority, in 2010 the UK’s 57 scheduled service airports handled 214 million people – a drop of 3.4% from the previous year.  Heathrow, with 66 million passengers carried roughly the same amount as 2009 – the only one of the major operations to do so.  In comparison, in 2007, the record passenger handling figure was achieved at 240 million, illustrating the severity of the recent decline in figures.
Figures for regional airports that may be of more interest to business travellers included George Best at Belfast, which was the only facility to increase business with numbers up by 4.5% to 2.7 million – nearly the same as London City, which was down only 0.6%.  Gatwick was down 3.1% to 31.3 million (but still the world’s busiest single runway airport); Stansted down 7% at 18.5 million; Manchester was also down 4.2% at 17.6 million, as were Luton (8.73m), Edinburgh (8.59m) and Birmingham (8.56m).
