New Colombian Start-up

COLOMBIAN START-UP airline, VivaColombia has applied for an Air Operators Certificate (AOC) to fly major domestic routes. The low-fare carrier is planning to launch its initial services during the first quarter of 2012 using an initial fleet of three aircraft, increasing to five by the end of the year. It is currently in negotiations with Airbus, Boeing and a number of lessors regarding the acquisition of either B737-300/700/800s or A319/A320 jets. It is understood that VivaColombia shareholders include Irelandia, the investment fund managed by Declan Ryan, Inversionistas en Autotransportes Mexicanos, Mexico’s leading intercity bus company, which already partners Irelandia in Mexico’s VivaAerobus airline, Grupo Bolivar and Grupo FAST, led by Juan Emilio Posada who is VivaColombia’s first Chairman.
