New Airports in Saudi Arabia

PLANS HAVE been announced to develop another three airports in Saudi Arabia. This is in addition to the two that were revealed last September. The Kingdom’s General Authority of Civil Aviation said that airports would be built in Al-Jouf, Qassim and Abha to add to plans for hubs in Jizan and Taif.
Abdullah Rehaimi, President of GACA, also gave brief details on the timescales for planned airport projects. “We are currently renovating the runways of seven domestic airports and 95% of the work has been completed,” he said, adding that Prince Abdul Majeed Airport in Al-Ula and Tabuk regional airport would soon be open, with Najran regional airport operational in the second quarter of 2011.
