Southwest’s Fleet Replacement Conundrum

Southwest Airlines’ Chairman, President and CEO, Gary Kelly speaking at a Conference in New York on March 22, said the carrier was “anxious to have some answers this year” regarding its next generation narrowbody jet options.  “It remains to be seen where the aerospace industry is headed optimising the size of a future narrowbody, and we are very interested to see what they come up with,” he said.  “What is inevitable is the next-generation aircraft that Southwest Airlines may acquire may very well be a different airplane, whether it’s a Boeing, an Airbus or a Bombardier, we don’t want eight different airliners, but I think we can handle two or three.”
