British Airways opens windows to new Microsoft app

British Airways (BA) has become the first UK airline to offer Mobile Boarding to Windows Phone 7 users, in partnership with Microsoft.
The new app provides customers with instant access about their next BA flight with real-time updates. Customers are also able to check-in and download boarding passes direct to their handset.
The app is already available on the iPhone, Blackberry and Android systems and has been downloaded by 650,000 people already.
British Airways’ digital marketing innovation manager, Richard Bowden, claims: “The app has been built with the customer at heart, to give them more freedom and convenience.”
Terminal maps have also been added to the app for the first time ever to help customers find their way through airports.
Mr Bowden claims: “Our partnership with Microsoft underscores our commitment to constant innovation and improvement.”
Nick Hedderman, head of apps strategy and marketing at Microsoft UK, said the company was “delighted” with the partnership.
The app will be available free of charge to BA’s Executive Club members from June 1, 2011.
