Cavotec wins order for Dubai A380 terminal

Global engineering group and airports systems integrator, Cavotec, has won a multimillion dirham order for the new Emirates Airlines A380 terminal (Concourse 3) at Dubai International Airport.
The contract for 58 pre-conditioned air (PCAir) systems and 400Hz Pop-Up pit systems was awarded by construction contractor ALEC. Delivery is due to start later this year with commissioning to follow in 2012.
The news was announced as Cavotec participated for the eleventh consecutive time at the Dubai Airport Show 2011.
Cavotec’s CEO Ottonel Popesco says: “This exciting project illustrates Cavotec’s growing role as a trusted partner and systems integrator in the Middle East airports market and the airports sector as a whole. We look forward to continue our close cooperation with our partners on this project in the months ahead.”
18 of the Concourse 3’s 20 stands will be built for use with the superjumbo Airbus A380. When it opens in 2012, Dubai’s Concourse 3 will increase the airport’s capacity to more than 70 million passengers a year and will be the world’s largest A380 terminal.
Cavotec’s Managing Director and Regional Manager for the Middle East & India, Juergen Strommer, is highly encouraged by the new order: “Our partnership with Dubai International Airport, Emirates Airlines and ALEC serves as an excellent reference as we continue to grow in the region and elsewhere.”
Cavotec already has a long-standing relationship with Dubai International Airport, and its systems are already installed in Concourses 1 and 2.
The new project follows several Middle Eastern developments: Cavotec has received orders in the last 12 months for over 100 fuelling systems at airports in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Oman.
