FAA Safety Award for Phoenix

PHX has won an award for its “commitment to safety.” (PHX)

Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX), USA, has received the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Western-Pacific Region Airport Safety Award.
The award was announced at the FAA Western-Pacific Region Annual Airports Conference held in June 2011 in Los Angeles.  PHX was recognised for its “commitment to safety and for its ongoing efforts to work in collaboration with the FAA”.
Assistant Aviation Director at PHX, Carl Newman, says:  “Safety and security are top priorities at Sky Harbor.  I am proud of our dedicated staff, which works in partnership with the FAA, the airlines and other airport stakeholders to ensure that one of the busiest airports in the country is also one of the most well-run.”
The award comes after PHX received its sixth consecutive perfect FAA certification safety inspection.  The inspection rates the airport on runway and taxiway maintenance, record-keeping, emergency response and more.
Mr Newman says:  “It takes employees from various divisions, working together around the clock and at the top of their game, to achieve perfect inspections six years in a row.”
