Airport Design Shortlist Announced

BRISBANE AIRPORT Corporation (BAC) has announced that three parties have been shortlisted in the national design competition for the first Property Master Plan at Brisbane Airport, Australia.
Out of 29 submissions, ARM/Arkhefield, Grimshaw/AEOCM/PWC/Tract and Shane Thompson Architects/Wilkinson Eyre/Lat27 have progressed to the detailed design phase of the competition, which will run over six weeks from June 10, 2011.
CEO and Managing Director of Brisbane Airport, Julieanne Alroe, says:  “The high quality of these submissions has ensured congratulations for the shortlisted parties are well deserved.  The competition has attracted incredible talent, who are offering more than just good design [and] will provide exciting outcomes for Brisbane Airport and its surrounding region.”
The winner will be announced in August and will work with BAC to develop a Property Master Plan at the airport between August and December 2011.
The competition follows the Airport Atelier, which was held in April 2011.  Ms Alroe says:  “The competition will continue the partnership momentum generated through the Atelier to develop a property vision for Brisbane Airport, which better connects the airport to its city through physical infrastructure, urban design and community.”
Ms Alroe says that there is:  “potential for this competition to deliver the best possible community and economic outcomes for Brisbane and Queensland.
