A NEW satellite terminal that supplements the main Terminal 5 has been opened at London Heathrow. It consists of a total of 12 air bridge-supported stands, reducing the need to deploy coaches as a means of airside passenger transport. Passengers access the island facility via the underground transit system. Of the 12 stands, eight will be large enough to support operations involving the Airbus A380. It has been built at a total cost of £340million and will be used by an estimated 3,000 passengers per hour. T5C’s amenities will include five shops and a TTS (Track Transit System), which will link it to Terminal 5 and the other satellite T5B.
