easyJet Southend Destinations Announced

UK airline easyJet has announced the destinations that will be served from its new London Southend Airport base.  Seats will be on sale later today (July 26) with starting fares from £23.99 (US$39.35).
Passengers now have the choice to fly to or from Amsterdam, Alicante, Barcelona, Belfast, Faro, Ibiza, Malaga and Mallorca.
The airline plans to operate 70 flights a week from April 2012.
The new Southend base is a minute’s walk from a new train station which has quick links to London’s Liverpool Street station and Stratford station.
London Southend Airport MD Alastair Welch welcomed the announcement:  “This is an exciting prospect for people wanting to visit London and those travelling to the region on holiday or business next year,” he said.
Passengers who buy the new tickets between July 26 and August 1, 2011, will also be placed into a prize draw.  The winner will receive seven pairs of return flights to the other destinations offered by easyJet from London Southend.
easyJet’s Customer and Revenue Director, said:  “Through offering easy and affordable travel, we expect the new routes to appeal to customers in Essex and London looking for a convenient new departure point for many top European destinations.  We believe that the European city links will also attract a high number of inbound business and leisure passengers to London next summer.”
