Record Cargo Figures at Frankfurt-Hahn

Frankfurt-Hahn Airport (HHN), Germany, has reported record cargo figures in the first half of this year after shifting 112,975 metric tonnes of cargo in the first six months of 2011.
Including transit and the road feeder service, the full cargo volume was 278,263 metric tonnes.  June alone saw 19,060 tonnes of freight, making it the best result for this particular month in the airport’s history.
Management Director Jörg Schumacher welcomed the news: “Compared to last year, we have improved by 69% in this segment.  This is helping us to compensate for the drop in the number of passengers.”
Passenger traffic at HHN has dropped since UK airline Ryanair reduced its number of routes as a result of aviation tax.  1,395,956 passengers used the airport in the last six months, 13% less than in 2010.
